What It means to see the world in a Spectrum.

My daddy used to say, “it takes all kinds of folks to run the world”. He often used this as an
answer to my many questions of “why”.

  •  Why isn’t somebody helping?
  •  Why don't the people in charge know what’s going on?
  •  Why do they keep taking money away from those who need it?
  •  Why does he act that way?
  •  Why is the sky blue?
  •  Why can’t I have more allowance?

I’m sure my dad would find himself exasperated at times, dealing with all my why questions. I
think that he was defining “spectrum” for me, even then. This idea of “all kinds of folks” has
stuck with me throughout my life. It’s true really, there are all kinds of people making their way
in the world. Some need a little support. Some need a dose of kindness. Some may be doing the
best they can but need more information or help.

Spectrum BHG Tulsa seeks to continue answering those “why” questions with action. When an
agency approaches us with a challenge of “why does he act that way”, or “why she doesn’t
speak”, we seek to find answers. It is our goal to help explore a wide range (or spectrum) of
challenging behaviors so that individuals can find their own solutions. We want to be the place
people can find that support or dose of kindness or information and training that they see.

The individuals we serve and the caregivers we support are part of that spectrum of folks that
my dad alluded to when I was a little (probably annoying) girl. And each of those folks are
unique individuals with dreams, cares and needs that are sometimes unmet. It is our hope that
we can help solve some of those problems and help meet those needs.

We see the world as a spectrum of people, ideas, challenges and opportunities. There are no
limits. We don't say no. We say how can we help. Please contact us if there is a challenge you need help addressing.
